Today, the three reasons I work out are:

  1. I want to be able to eat more food
  2. I’m uncomfortable at the gym, and I feel uncomfortable when I start feeling comfortable
  3. I get all my best ideas when I’m working out

If I’m being really honest though, there are tons more:

  • Feel comfortable in my own body (when I look in the mirror)
  • Need a place to listen to podcasts (at 0.8x speed)
  • Need a place to disconnect (headphones in, glasses off)
  • Practice new skills (to get the mind in a different state)
  • Look good (to feel good) but also because it’s key to first impressions
  • Makes me feel more confident in my own skin

In the past, the three reasons I worked out were:

  1. Push myself to my limits (until I hit a series of injuries)
  2. Get as fit as possible (until I realized I only care to be in the top 0.01% professionally)
  3. Impress other people (both men and women); but that only matters in your early 20s

My three laws of training are:

  1. Find a set of activities you enjoy doing; and that fit into your lifestyle
  2. Don’t get injured; especially one-way injuries
  3. Stay consistent by making adjustments when you stop enjoying it and by not getting injured

I have a lot more to say on this, but I figured I’d share my immediate thoughts in the meantime.
